Skype mobile |
| Skype claims that they are currently one of the leading names in VoIP technology. The company is working to remain on top by focusing its development on going mobile VoIP. They've achieved some ground towards this goal with the launch of Skype phone overseas at the end of 2007. However, there are still problems to overcome if the move into mobile is going to materialise. Currently, it is believed that 3G networks aren't capable of handling both data and voice in a way that will allow the call quality to transmit successfully. Although sprouting, there is still a relative lack of Wi-Fi availability in many areas. Making things easier always has an impact on the economics of the technology plus the never ending saga working with carriers. Skype says that they will take 3-4 years to see widespread use of Skype-enabled mobile phones. |
